Guitars, Tuners and Metronomes, Accessories, Pedals, Amps
This guitar is fantastic for those people who are sold on learning guitar, don't want something cheap, but don't want to spend a lot of dough. It will last.
Fender DG-8S Acoustic Guitar Value Pack
For $200 bucks, you get a decent guitar, extra strings, tuner, and even picks. Not bad, and the guitar ain't too terrible either. The guitar might not be the best for continued study, but the nice thing is that it is inexpensive enough to see if you like playing guitar.
I recommend this tuner over all others because of one feature: A beep that tells you when your string is in tune. It's CHEAP and it's built really well too.
I've used this tuner on stage a lot. Tuning on-stage has to be fast. The TU-2 tuner is direct, unfussy, and indestructible.
I use an older version of this metronome primarily. I've had it since 1999, and it has seen a lot of trouble. The nicest feature on this is the "tap/tempo" feature. This is great because sometimes you may want to just find the correct tempo by using your head first and the metronome second.
I like the green ones, the .88 millimeter diameter picks. These are preferred for when I am strumming, when I don't need to be terribly accurate.
John Petrucci of Dream Theater uses these. I can see why. These picks are really small but great for when more accuracy is needed. I use these more than the green Tortex picks in general, and on stage preferably.
G7th 405 Performance Guitar Capo
The problem with capos is that they just get in the way. They are usually pretty obtrusive. Ideally, the capo ought to be as out of the way as the nut of the guitar is. Somehow, the G7th capo does just that. It is as simple to use as it looks, and is indestructible too.
Electro Harmonix Holier Grail.
The Holier Grail is just a fantastic pedal. Just fantastic. I've been tempted to use this as an outboard reverb unit in actual studios, it's just that good. It's such a nice pedal, and it is just indestructible. Not cheaply made, and of course, it's not cheap either. The trade-off is it's ability to produce a fantastic reverb.
Electro Harmonix Memory Man with Hazarai
One thing that I am a big big fan of is reverse reverb. When a friend of mine left the Sterio Memory Man over at my house, I tried as hard to keep him off the subject of giving it back to him. Really really tried hard. It's one of those pedals that has an insane amount of options, blows my mind with it's ability to produce interesting sounds, and doesn't break the bank.
This pedal meets all of my criteria for a good purchase. Indestructible, and strange. The feedback you can get from the RE-20 makes it worth buying. It makes fun crazy noise (though digital). The emulation of the old Roland Space Echo makes this pedal well worth the money.
I once tried out for a punk rock band. The bassist had a huge bass stack, and I showed up with this little Fender Blues Junior. I was louder than him and the drummer combined. I've used this amp for jazz as well as rock, and it just doesn't disappoint. Nothing short of a great little tube amp with a lot of power.
