A Summary of Your Guitar Lesson:

This is sounding good so far. I realize that I'm sending you off to practice this without having gone over much of the strumming, but if you listen to the song you can pick it up, I'm betting. We will worry more about the strumming next time, and I want to also go over the G and C transitions...

A Summary of Your Guitar Lesson:

What an easy song to play, and so reasonable! We also went over some technical things, ie with the thumb. My suggestion is to treat every chord change as a huge movement at first, one that requires your thumb to lift up.

A Summary of Your Guitar Lesson:

There is so much depth in this song rhythmically. Wow, it threw me for a loop. I think the rhythm really serves the lyrics and the melody however, and once the mechanics of the strum are fully there for you (I don't think you are far from that) it's going to be a matter of phasing out and listening to the melody. Funny how memorable a song can be simply by how strong a melody is!

A Summary of Your Guitar Lesson:

Perfect timing on this song, if you ask me. You are going on vacation! Enjoy, and see you in a couple.

A Summary of Your Guitar Lesson:

Practicing is a difficult concept because there's more to it than allowing for fun. For that five minutes of practice, it needs to be just a tad annoying, and it also need not be inherently enjoyable. The thing is, practicing those little chunks very deliberately creates results like you wouldn't believe. If I were in your shoes, practice this song in groups of four chords, and don't stop until you are playing that little chunk really well. By the end of next week, this song should really be together.

A Summary of Your Guitar Lesson:

This song is a fast one, and Thom Yorke tends to be a study in trying to make songs faster, more energetic. The important thing to do is to just keep moving forward with it, keep strumming fast. More on this next time we meet...

A Summary of Your Guitar Lesson:

Okay, we reviewed a bunch of stuff today. Went over the G chord exercise, the gravity stuff, and also D A G. Finally, Last Kiss by Pearl Jam. Easy.

A Summary of Your Guitar Lesson:

High and Dry is sounding good. My suggestion would be to play it with headphones; they help because you can dig into your guitar a little more. In the meantime, we played Kast Kiss by Pearl Jam, a nice and easy song. I promise I'll take it easy on you this month!

A Summary of Your Guitar Lesson:

Excellent work today! The barre chords are looking great, and this song shouldn't pose too much of a challenge for you. Aside from this, keep that Beatles song on the cue. We are going to warm up with that next time, and finish off the Wilco soon after.

A Summary of Your Guitar Lesson:

This song has a great chord progression to know. The trouble spots are the C's and D's. Just remember this: third finger first on each of those!
